– Tôi không để ý đến âm nhạc, và ngay cả ca sĩ của họ là vì tôi không thích họ nên tôi không thèm ngó tới cái âm nhạc của họ, không thích ca sĩ, không thích sách báo, bài viết, văn thơ của họ. 

– Hồi ở bên nhà, chị có nghe đài phát thanh, xem truyền hình trong nước không?

– Không. Khi sang đây, có bà bạn đưa cho tôi băng nhạc tiền chiến do Lê Dung hát, nói rằng: “Cô này hát có vẻ bắt chước chị lắm, có vẻ giống Thái Thanh lắm, chị xem thử xem thế nào?”. Người thì nói thế này, người thì nói thế kia. Nhưng nhìn chung thì nhiều người hải ngoại lại thích mua băng của ca sĩ trong nước, rồi khen ca sĩ trong nước. Nhưng có người lại nói với tôi: “Ôi dào, chỉ mới nghe thì thấy là lạ, chứ nghe nhiều thì ai cũng thấy là ca sĩ trong nước không bằng ca sĩ hải ngoại đâu.

For a long time I’ve tried to fathom the efforts of manhhai, and the likes of independent online archivists in collecting and preserving images of Vietnam. 103,930 fucking images, ranging from maps to vintage music sheets to things you don’t even know you need. And these images are far from the redone-reused-abused- retro shit you see from angsty teen facebook group. Here’s to my hero.
